Bypass TTL

Override the cache lifetime of normally resolved DNS answers.

What Bypass TTL does

Bypass TTL overrides the Time to Live, in seconds, for DNS answers resolved normally rather than blocked or redirected.

With this override off, answers retain their normal upstream TTLs. The 60 shown when you enable the field is the starting value for the override, not a universal TTL for all domains.

Set Bypass TTL

  1. Edit the Profile and open Profile Options.
  2. Enable Bypass TTL.
  3. Enter the desired duration in seconds and allow the setting to save.

Turn the option off to return to normal upstream TTL behavior.

When to change it

A higher TTL can reduce DNS lookups, but it can also keep an old IP address cached after a website changes servers. This can interfere with CDNs, failover, and other services that rely on short TTLs. Leave the override off unless you have a specific need; values above one day are not recommended.

This is a caching option, not a Bypass rule. It does not allow blocked domains or change Matching Order. See TTL Overrides for general caching guidance.
