Block TTL
Control how long blocked DNS answers may be cached.
What Block TTL does
Block TTL overrides the Time to Live, in seconds, for DNS answers blocked by Control D. The normal Block TTL is 10 seconds.
A longer TTL can reduce repeated DNS lookups for blocked domains. It also means that, after you unblock a domain, a device may continue using its cached blocked answer until that answer expires.
Set Block TTL
- Edit the Profile and open Profile Options.
- Enable Block TTL.
- Enter the desired duration in seconds and allow the setting to save.
Turn the option off to return to the normal Block TTL. The field initially shows 10; choose a different value only when you have a specific caching requirement.
When to change it
Leave the normal value in place if you frequently adjust blocking rules. Raising it trades fewer DNS lookups for slower recovery after unblocking.
This setting does not select which domains are blocked or change the Block Response type. See TTL Overrides for general caching guidance.
