Manual Server Region Selection Or Specific Server and bypassing ISP BGP while maintaining anycast functionality?
Hey! It sounds stupid I know and impractical but my ISP BGP recently changed the dns server and from the nearest where I was it went me to a more far away. I don’t have an issue with that it’s just the latency went about ~+/-20ms more and from net actuate and host virtual I had, I know have the data camp one in Germany. Don’t get me wrong the latency is still acceptable to pretty good (45-60ms), and I don’t have any noticeable latency. A new service that goes by the name of mod DNS has anycast as well but allows you to select a server manually but if that server is down the dns breaks. I thought if you could make it if for some reason the selected region or server by me is down for maintenance or something else if the service automatically with or without user knowledge changed the server temporarily to either a random one or the next closest/optimal/fast dns server and change me back when that server or a server from that region is available?
